This Month's Highlights

(1) → (2) → (3) to open the playlist: from an indie pop track discovered via Shazam at a Thai restaurant, into a Bossa nova pop track from an Indian film soundtrack a friend used on Instagram Stories, and on into a new track from Arlo Parks — a highlight from this year's Fuji Rock livestream. Three tracks from different countries and genres, moving from breezy pop into Bossa nova and on into a more club-leaning modern sound — a flow made for summer.

Track 03｜Arlo Parks

Jetta

Arlo Parks, mentioned above. An English singer-songwriter whose sound blends indie pop with soul, R&B, and electronic textures into a world all her own. She played the White Stage at this year's Fuji Rock — I caught the livestream on the move, and both the performance and the sound were outstanding, with a real presence and atmosphere from her and the band. "Jetta," the track picked here, is from her 3rd album released this year. She played it as the second song of the set, and it's where the show first picked up momentum. Its floaty sound and beat-driven modern arrangement carry the front half of the playlist smoothly into its next scene.
